BSNL Terms

1. Excel
  • Pulse rate: The time period by which the charging is incremented byone unit. For example, in Plan 525 of CellOne, the pulse rate is 15seconds and call charge is 40 paise per minute. So charge per pulse is10 paise only. If you talk for 1 min.15 sec., you have to pay for 5charge units i.e. 50 paise only and not 80 paise.
  • Talk value: This is the amount of rupees available for making orreceiving calls.
  • Validity period : If you recharge your connection within the validityperiod, you can make calls and the balance talk value is available toyou for carry forward and accumulation. Your connection validity period is the validity period of the last recharge coupon you have used.
  • Grace period: If you fail to recharge your connection within thevalidity period, you won't be able to make any calls but will be able toreceive calls within the grace period; as soon as you recharge you willbe able to make outgoing calls and also your balance talk value will be carried forward.
  • Additional grace period: If you forget to recharge even within thegrace period but do it within the additional grace period, yourconnection will be alive but all your balance will be lost. If you fail torecharge even within the additional grace period, you have to get anew connection by paying activation charge again.
2. bfone
  • Registration charge: Money to be paid for connection along with theapplication. It is not a cost. It will be adjusted with other chargeelements in next bills on bfone.
  • Security deposit: Refundable amount kept with BSNL as security.
3. IN Service
  • IT Card: India Telephone Card is prepaid service of BSNL on bfone& WLL-M. This service enables the customer to make any type of call(including STD/ ISD) from any telephone having tone dialing facility.The call charge is deducted from the balance value of the IT Card. It isnot added to the bill of the phone from which the call is made.
  • Free Phone Service: This service is based on the concept of reversecharging i.e. the called subscriber is charged for the active phase of acall. However, the calling subscriber is not charged in this service.
  • Universal Number Scheme: The Universal Number Scheme allows you to publish one number and have your incoming calls routed to different destinations based on origin of call or time/day on which the call is received.
4. Plan 499
  • A second telephone line only for dial-up Internet access againstan existing BSNL basic phone (bfone). Internet call charge is free for thisconnection
5. DIAS
  • Direct Internet Access Service which permits simultaneous usage of telephone line for talking and Internet access at high speeds of up to 128 Kbps.With simultaneous speech on the same line, the Internet access speed comes down to 64 Kbps.
6. Web Hosting
  • This service allows customers to host their static or dynamicwebsite on BSNL server.
7. I-net
  • I-net is an X.25 based packet switched Public Data Network. It provides cost effective and reliable solution to your High Speed Wide Area Networking needs
8. ISDN
  • ISDN connection is a digital subscriber line for provisioning ofdifferent services like voice, data and image transmission over the existing telephone line at high speed of access.
  • NT:Network Termination is a physical device, installed at thecustomer premises, where ISDN line is connected on one side and various terminals of subscriber are connected on the other side.
  • BRA: Basic Rate Access is the ISDN accessibility of two 64KbpsB-channels for transmission of user information and one 16Kbps D-channel for transmission of signaling information.
  • PRA: Primary Rate Access is the ISDN accessibility of 30 numbers of 64Kbps B-channel for transmission of user information and one 64Kbps D-channel for transmission of signaling information.
  • Terminal Adapter: A Terminal Adapter is a physical device which isconnected to a non-ISDN terminal to permit access to ISDN.
9. Leased Line
  • Local Lead: The line (cable) between nearest high speed data circuit node to customer premise
10. MLLN
  • MLLN is a managed leased line network system which provides variable bandwidth leased line connectivity. This supports data circuits ranging from 64Kbps to 2048Kbps in steps of 64Kbps.
11. MPLS VPN
  • VPN is an acronym for virtual private network which is an emulation of private and secured network over a shared infrastructure like Internet or a separate Internet backbone. MPLS stands for �Multi Protocol Label Switching�, which provides a mechanism for engineering network traffic patterns that is independent of routing tables.
