Arrows A 301F
Japanese telecommunications company Softbank has just held its 2013 Winter – 2014 Spring press conference where a number of new mobile devices were announced for its network. One of those turns out to be possibly the fastest charging smartphone ever released.
The phone in question comes from Fujitsu, and carries the nameArrows A 301F. It’s part of a larger Arrows range of smartphones, but this particular model uses a 2.2GHz Snapdragon 800 processor, 2GB RAM, 64GB on-board storage, a 1080p 5-inch touchscreen display, 13 megapixel camera, Android 4.2, and 2,600mAh battery.
Fully charged that battery is expected to offer three days of use. However, Softbank also focused in on a 10 minute charge feature of the handset. Apparently, if you let the 301F charge for 10 minutes, you’ll get a day of battery life in return.
That’s very impressive, but no details were given as to exactly how Fujitsu has achieved such a feat. It seems likely Fujitsu hasQualcomm to thank, however. As the 301F uses a Snapdragon 800 processor, it can take advantage of Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 2.0 feature.
Qualcomm introduced v2.0 of Quick Charge back in February, and claimed it could cut charging times by as much as 75 percent when using a special AC adapter. Combine quick charging with only needing to get past 33 percent battery capacity for a day of use, and you can see how that 10 minute claim might be made.
Charging times of around 10 minutes are highly desirable, and if the 301F really does achieve that consistently, I can see it becoming a marketing opportunity for many new smartphones carrying compatible Snapdragon processors. And as a consumer, I won’t be complaining if such a feature is available to me.
