Procedure to download and configure BSNL BULK SMS Client



 1. Download the package from  http://data.bsnl.in
 2. After downloading the bsnlnew.zip file. Extract the contents to your local Disk.
3. Click on Setup to start the installation.
4. Select the Installation Directory and Click on Install icon.
5. During installation, if any popup indicates a error in accessing a file. Please click on Ignore and click on Yes.   
6. Run and save
7.After installation  you will find an EXcel sheet as  shown below
5. Enter the login name in the sender name
6 .Enter bulk sms mail id in the sender mail id.
7 . Enter message in the Message body
8 . Mobile nos to whom we wish to send sms can be entered under the coloumn mobile no by prefixing      91 with no
10 check the box for send sms
11 if  you wish to import the contact nos  from the excel sheet, save the file in excel  format at C:\Program Files\BulkSMS   , To import  the file on application click on misc , and fill the entries as shown below .
12  click on load , the nos will appear on the excel
13. The message to be sent can be imported by saving the message in  \programfiles\bulksms\messages


14 . Click on continue to send  sms again

How Can I Get An Alert When I Receive Any New Message In My Mail Box?
 An user can get Alert message on the receipt of new mail in its “bsnl.co.in “ mail id  ,if he has  subscribed for Mail Notification service. This alert can be received through SMS on his registered mobile no.

How I can avail the Mail Notification service through SMS(beta testing)?
 For availing the  Notification service interested  users can send their willingness through email to bsnlmail@bsnl.co.in

What Is The Procedure To  Set An SMS  Alert For Any Incoming Mail ?

It is a two step process.
Step  1.  Create destination for receiving alert:
1. Login to your   bsnl.co.in id, go to the settings, click on Message filters, you will find two tabs, click on destinations, click on New Destination,  you will find the window as below,

2. Enter the destination name as per your choice, phone no or mail id where you wish to receive alert, and the Message format as mail or SMS. Click on ok.

Step 2.   Set Filter for selecting the message for which the alert is desired.
  1. Go to the settings, click on Message filters, you will find two tabs, click on New Filter,  you will find the window as below,
2. Enter a filter name  as per your choice .
3. Filter  mail for which alert is desired , for this select  the entries  from the drop down tab ( eg.   from ,to, cc, recipients, subject ) , define the criteria (contains, does not contain)  and fill in the matching string . To refine your filtering process you can add more than one   operation for filtering, for this click “Add operation” and enter the filter options as per your choice.
4. Define the action for filtered mail.
i. You can discard the filtered mail, for this click on discard message 
ii. Place the mail in the desired folder by mentioning the folder name (The mail will go to inbox by default).
iii. Check box to forward the filtered mail & enter the mail id where you wish to forward the mail.
5. For receiving the alerts, check box for “send notification to” and select the destination from drop down tab that you have filled in step 1.
6. Click on OK.

What are the options available for accessing mail service?
There are three options available for accessing your mails viz. PoP, IMAP and Webmail.

What are the addresses for mail servers?
 You can access mails from webmail  http://mail.bsnl.in.The mail server can also be accessed using IP Addreses 218.248.240.10218.248.240.71 or  218.248.240.201, if you face any  domain resolution issue because of DNS problem.

How Can I Compose  Message Through Mail.Bsnl.In?

 Any message can be composed by logging into the mail box , click  on the  messages link on main subscription page, click on compose, this will give you a new page with blank spaces  with  To, Cc and Bcc fields along with subject, you can highlight any important fact using bold, italics and  font modification features.You can send the message by clicking send option.

How can I check for any new mail in my mail box?
 New Incoming mail can be checked for by  clicking  on the  messages link on main subscription page ,then click on the Get mail, if any new mail is there it will appear or if there is no new mail a message will be displayed showing no new message.

You can configure outlook or outlook express through below steps:
  •     Open Outlook or Outlook Express
  •     Click the Tools menu, and select Accounts.
  •     Click Add, and then click Mail...
  •     Enter your name in the Display name: field, and click Next.
  •     Enter your full email address (username@ bsnl.in)n the Email address: field, and click Next.
  •     Enter mail.bsnl.in in the Incoming mail (POP3, IMAP or HTTP) server: field. Enter smtp.bsnl.in
        for the 
    Outgoing mail (SMTP) server: field.
  •     Click Next.
  •    Enter your full email address (including @bsnl.in) in the Account name: field. Enter your email password in the Password: field,              and click Next.
  •     Click Finish.
  •     Highlight mail.bsnl.in under Account, and click Properties.
  •     Return to the Servers tab, and check the box next to My server requires authentication.
  •     Click OK.
Follow the steps below to configure MS Outlook 2007 for Windows to send and receive email.
  • Open Outlook. Select Account Settings... from the Tools menu.
  • Go to Account  Settings,
  • On the E-mail tab, click New.
  • Select "Manually configure server settings or additional server types" and click Next .
  • Select Internet E-mail and click Next.
  • Enter the following information for E-mail Accounts.
(i)              Your Name: Enter the name you wish recipients to see when they receive your message.
(ii)      Email Address:This is the address that your contacts' email program will reply to your messages. This is also the address that will get recorded in your contacts' address book if they add you as a contact.
(iii)      Account Type: POP3
(iv)      Incoming mail server(POP3): mail.bsnl.in
(v)       Outgoing mail server (SMTP): smtp.bsnl.in
(vi)      User Name: Enter your full e-mail address  (eg. xyz@bsnl.in)
(vii)     Password: If you wish for Outlook to save your password, check the box labeled Remember Password and enter your password in the text field.
(viii)    Click More Settings...
(ix)      Click on the Outgoing Server tab, and check the box labeled My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication. Then choose to Use same settings as my incoming mail server
  • Click on the Advanced tab.
            (i)     Under Incoming Server (POP3), the port number should be set to 110
            (ii)    Under Outgoing Server (SMTP), the port number should be set to 25
  • Click OK
  •  Click Next. Click Finish.
What is the option if any particular mail is required to be searched from the mail box?

Any mail could be searched for its availability in the mail box ,for this click  the search option on the main subscription page , mail could be searched  for its presence on the basis of sender details, receiver details, subject ,or message particulars by checking the corresponding box and click  ok.

What Is The Procedure To Treat Any Mail As Spam?

 Any mail if you find to have undesired  contents  & want to be  treated as spam mail then for this check the box on the left hand side of the selected mail and click on thespam tab at the top , the mail  will be sent to mail admin for spam check and you will receive message "Selected messages have been forwarded to a spam abuse center and deleted."similarily any message could be marked as read and unread  by selecting the message, checking the left hand side box and clicking on "mark as read "or "mark as unread".

How can I add a new contact in the address book?

 Any new mail id can be added into your contact list,for this click addresses link on the main subscription page ,click new contact, this will give you a blank  form in which you can choose the view  detail or brief ,fill into the various details,click ok .




DO’s
1. If you are facing problem in opening the site using proxy server.Please use IP address 218.248.240.10/218.248.240.71/218.248.240.201 instead of http://mail.bsnl.co.in.
2.  If you are facing problem in sending/receiving mails using outlook. Please use username without domain. For E.g. If mail id = "xyz@bsnl.co.in" use only  xyz.
3.  Keep changing the password frequently, and do not use simple, easy to remember or easy to guess passwords. It is for your email security.
4. In case you prefer to use Webmail, then it is advisable to use Folders to manage different types of emails in your inbox. Just create folders and create appropriate Message filters so that mails of particular nature go automatically to the designated folders. This will also keep your Inbox light and you will get better and faster response. In case you want to sync folders in webmail and in the client, you can use IMAP option in case of PoP.
5. In case you face any problem in logging in or have any other mail related problem, please send query through email to bsnlmail@bsnl.co.in . Please mention your contact number and identify  yourself in the email.
6.  Circle Administrators are advised to keep on   changing  password frequently and do not use simple, easy to remember or easy to guess passwords. It is for email security of all officers of the Circle. Recently we have noticed some changes in some of the user profiles for generating spam emails. Such activities can easily be avoided by keeping email and administrator password safe and secure.
7. Insert some upper case letters (A,B,C.....), Special   characters (!,@,#,$,&...), Numerals   (1,2,3,4,5...) to make a PASSWORD  strong difficult  to crack & finally to avoid PASSWORD HACKING /SPAMMING .
8. In Current version of messaging system life is only 1 year in the mailbox so kindly download to keep a backup.
9. Movement of mails in sub folders on monthly basis should be implemented to lightweight the mail box  for auto mail movement, filters can be used on new incoming mails.
10. Mails in the spam folder should be removed .
DON’TS,
1.  Do not share your  mail password with anybody.
2.  Do not to use your mail login password as  username, password, bsnl, bsnl123  etc.
3.   Do not exceed the mailbox count above  3000 mails   else it will  slow the speed of  mail access .
